In the summer of 2013, Michael Ahlers and Roland Heuger have teamed up as the founding team of Photocarver. As young architects and designers, their interest is in the use of new media and digital fabrication, which allows up to offer customized products. At the same time, they want to bridge the gap between digital design and the physical, haptic and handcrafted product with character.

In a long and constant cooperation with Friedrich Ahlers, they developed a way to produce unique and personalized surfaces with wood and new techniques of carpentry. A long process, that requires a cooperation between old and new generation, manual craft and digital design.
